The three Seagrave sisters face an upheaval that brings their individual problems and family secrets to the fore when their mother shoots their father on the eve of the couple's fortieth wedding anniversary. Goudge's story is somewhat predictable since it's clear that everything will work out despite that dark secret. Nevertheless, the characters are engrossing, and Sandra Burr's ability to express every emotional nuance is perfectly suited to this kind of story. Her tones are truly "bell-like," and her male voices, slightly deeper in tone, sound natural. Both the narrative passages and conversations flow naturally. The talents of author and narrator create a family that seems as real as next-door neighbors.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
