George Guidall excels in his presentation of Kelton's Wild West adventure, set in 1889 Texas. Guidall shines in his portrayal of young hicks and cowboy wannabes. His acting skills are in perfect harmony with the standard plotlines of romance, cattle-rustling and herding, old-time sheriffs, and the hard struggle of pioneer women. Hewey Calloway is a fun-loving cowboy who can't shoot straight. His younger brother, Walter, is a serious cowboy who, much to Hewey's horror, wants to marry a pretty waitress, Eve, and become a farmer. Guidall is an extraordinarily gifted narrator with a delivery style that compels attention and is fun to listen to.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
