Claudia ultimately pays the price for her indifference when her marriage dissolves as a result. Nixon’s voice practically drips with sadness and regret as she relays Claudia’s efforts to rebuild her world, and she shines as she reads with humor and wit Claudia’s forays into the next stage of her life. Surrounded by children or couples wanting to have children, Claudia attempts to reconcile the choices she makes with the life she winds up with. Nixon makes those consequences poignant, funny, tender, and believable as she creates a lovable cast of characters brimming with personality and verve.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
