Will Combrey is Casey Stowe's old flame. When he dumped her, her lifetime best friend, Michael, put her back together. Twenty years later Casey is a mother, contentedly married to Michael, a steady, decent human being, when Will reenters her life. He is a twice-divorced thoughtless, selfish, successful man, and he wants her back. The most annoying thing about this book is that it takes itself seriously. These people are so self-involved and shallow that we really don't care what happens to them. Only Ruth Ann Phimister's graceful performance keeps things from falling apart. Phimister is a fine actress. She has found the humanity in her characters, giving us another case of an excellent reading making an ordinary novel worth listening to.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
