Narrators Rachel L. Jacobs and P.J. Ochlan deliver a swoon-worthy performance of this YA novel. Engaging listeners right off the bat with a stellar British accent is Ochlan as Luke, the son of a famous UK rock star. Luke is a masterful songwriter, yet he struggles with stage fright. Vada, currently working at a legendary bar and writing a music blog, is laser focused on her dream, writing for ROLLING STONE magazine. Jacobs, voicing Vada, proves accents are not an issue with a solid performance navigating the characters. When the two are paired for a school project, sparks fly. With youthful intensity and relatable introspection, Jacobs and Ochlan skillfully establish themselves as the endearing protagonists.

Listeners follow Merry, the longbow girl, one of the best archers in her town. When she finds a magical portal in the forest that takes her back to sixteenth-century Wales, she must use her skills to win an archery contest in order to help her ancestors keep their land. While narrator Emily Wilden brings protagonist Merry to life with a rich Welsh accent, her narration seems uneven at times. All the period characters have accents that reflect the setting of the story and transport listeners to Wales. Listeners who enjoy historical fiction and a bit of fantasy will be charmed by this tale of determination, hope, and family.
