by Herman Wouk ; Read by Kevin Pariseau ‧ RELEASE DATE: Jan. 22, 2011
This sweeping saga of WWII, first published in 1971, is still vibrant and relevant. U.S. Naval Attaché Captain Victor "Pug" Henry and his wife are stationed in wartime Berlin. Their family members, a son who is a naval pilot, a daughter who works for a New York City news agency, and a son who is wandering around Eastern Europe, play pivotal roles in the story of the war. There’s a little romance, a good amount of warfare and intrigue, and, not surprisingly, a lot of tension. Kevin Pariseau bring this novel to life, reading steadily and flawlessly through all six parts of the story. At an ever steady pace, with little characterization but lots of inflection, Pariseau keeps the listener engaged with the characters and action on all fronts and theaters. by Gerald A. Browne ; Read by Barry Bostwick ‧ RELEASE DATE: Jan. 22, 1993
This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
