Mitchard gives us the riveting story of a family's grief as its members cope with the disappearance of a three-year-old child. The aftermath is more shattering than the abduction itself, splintering the parents and siblings into painful fragments, all flying in opposite directions. Her writing is wonderful, with such original descriptions as a woman moving "slower than weight loss." Dana Ivey gives vitality to this tale with her heart-felt portrayals of each member of the Cappadora family, as well as the friends and professionals who try to help solve the mystery. The depths of performance and plot are seemingly endless; this is storytelling at its best.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
