In this follow-up to Tapper's HELLFIRE CLUB, narrator Rob Shapiro portrays Congressman Charlie Marder and his wife, Margaret, in a convivial style as they navigate a Cold War world. The couple visits Hollywood and advises filmmakers on the shooting of THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, starring Frank Sinatra. Shapiro relishes portraying "Ol' Blue Eyes" and the outlandish and bawdy behavior of his Rat Pack buddies. Tapper's page-turner reveals corruption and adds layers to the personalities of boldface names like Robert Kennedy, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., and others. Shapiro adds a tinge of imitation to the well-known voices but not enough to distract from the roller-coaster plot. Sinatra sings "The Devil May Dance," but Tapper calls the key, tempo, and final crescendo.

The dynamic and deliberate voice of David Rintoul is the perfect choice for this sequel to Forsyth's 1972 novel The Odessa File. Fifty years after journalist Peter Miller exposed the underworld of a Nazi terrorist group (Odessa), grandson Georg Miller takes on an investigation of the latest terrorist attack in Germany and links it all back--only this time it is "Medusa" he must stop. While Rintoul's narration is filled with intensity and drama, the story lacks the sharpness of the original Forsyth novel.

Jeremy Bobb transports listeners to Russia during the early days of the invasion of Ukraine as Detective Arkady Renko investigates the brutal murder of a Russian minister of defense. Bobb's strong narration, which is marked by authentic-sounding pronunciation and excellent timing, provides the perfect backdrop for this contemporary thriller, which exudes a distinct atmosphere of Putin's Russia. He brings Renko to life as a believable, complex character who is facing numerous challenges, including hiding his Parkinson's diagnosis from colleagues. Bobb also voices a diverse and compelling group of supporting characters. Although this is the final installment in the series, the author's sharp plotting combined with Bobb's superb narration makes it an enjoyable and engaging listen even for newcomers.
