Elisabeth Rodgers narrates with tasteful objectivity yet infuses this engrossing audiobook with all the emotion it deserves. Sounding more like a novel than a true-crime story, this account of the lives of four University of Idaho students before their horrific murders reveals a group of popular young people who enjoyed partying, were part of loving families, and were naïve about the dangers of posting their lives online for anyone to see. As the story unfolds, Rodgers disappears, never displaying bias as the facts of suspected killer Bryan Kohberger's unusual behaviors are presented. Her handling of the police investigation--their careful attention to detail and professionalism despite public ridicule--is top-notch. After publication, Kohberger pleaded guilty, avoiding a jury trial and the death penalty. Fascinating listening.

Former FBI Agent Robert Hilland and world-famous psychic John Edward narrate the story of their longstanding collaboration in solving cold cases. Their partnership--first distrusting and then blossoming into a true brotherhood--spanned two-and-a-half decades. Most of the story focuses on the famous John Smith murders, but it covers other fascinating cases, as well. Hilland narrates the bulk of the story, taking listeners from his skepticism toward John Edward to his developing awareness of his own psychic energy and spirit guides. Edward narrates dialogue so naturally that listeners will hear his conviction and picture his thoughtful gaze as he directs Hilland's focus. Hilland becomes a strong believer, and listeners will as well.

Dan John Miller's no-nonsense delivery is fitting for this explosive exposé of U.S. Special Forces units. Harp's audiobook paints a dire picture of power abuses deeply ingrained in the military. Listeners who are familiar with Delta Force or Seal Team 6 are likely to find the reporting here alarming. The title refers to a system of funneling opiates and other drugs onto military bases with little accountability. The violence described is often shocking as military personnel are given a lot of unchecked freedom to use substances, leading to outcomes both tragic and damaging. Harp's unflinching delivery encourages listeners to focus on these concerns, which are clearly in need of large-scale change.
