Yet again Green ventures into the world of family relationships--this time between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. In fact, the mother-in-law is the eponymous “other woman” who plagues each of the characters in the marriages Green brings to life. Ellie marries Dan, whose mother, Linda, wants to plan every aspect of their lives, from the marriage to the baby’s room. The other marriages depicted are no less uncomfortable. Josephine Bailey brings these situations to life in quiet tones with inflections that run from stoic to frustrated to angry. While Bailey’s narration is superb, Green’s story is not for the faint of heart or the shaky relationship.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
