SHOTS HEARD ROUND THE WORLD

AMERICA, BRITAIN, AND EUROPE IN THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR

This account of the international politics of the American Revolution is given a steady narration by Jason Keller. The author goes into the role of the French, as well as the Spanish and Dutch, in joining forces to support the American colonists against their common enemy, the British. He does not spare descriptions of the brutality of the war or the political machinations among the various players in the worldwide drama. Keller is clear in his enunciation, and his overall delivery, while a bit quick and staccato, is outstanding. With the 250th anniversary of the Revolution taking place next year, this work should be a popular listen.

    AMONG THE PORCUPINES

Carol Matthau epitomizes a glamour and lifestyle not associated with the 1990's. Here is a life of privilege, tragedy and worry about what friends would think of her new frock or lover. Matthau possesses a voice and delivery that simply could not be improved on. In her coy whisper, she tells compelling stories involving everyone from William Saroyan (husband #1) and Truman Capote to Carson McCullers, Gloria Vanderbilt, and Walter Matthau (husband #2). This excellent audio presentation will leave you wanting to read the entire book to discover what juicy tidbits were left out.

      THE REVOLUTIONISTS

THE STORY OF THE EXTREMISTS WHO HIJACKED THE 1970S

Kristin Atherton is the absolute right choice to narrate this riveting and complex history of the rise of global terrorism. The research provided here is ambitious, providing a clear-eyed, deeply considered history of the nature of terrorist acts, the motivations for which were hard for news broadcasts of the 1970s to fully capture. Atherton's narration never wavers as Burke covers the well-known events of airplane hijackings, the Munich Olympic attacks, and the Beirut bombings of 1983, "the bloodiest year." The result is an insightful history that gives context to events that may have seemed disparate to casual observers. Atherton maintains a comprehensive, consistent voice throughout this long, gripping audiobook.
