A young boy falls into a sinkhole while hunting and is shocked to discover he’s not alone. Scared witless, he blows the face off the corpse, so it takes some time to identify Sarah Yoder, a young Amish girl shunned from her community. It’s way outside the Twin Cities viewing area, but TV reporter Riley Spartz is determined to get the facts and see justice done. Kramer’s story alternates between the voice of a narrator and the voice of Riley. Bernadette Dunne’s delivery is precise and deliberate as she navigates the short, choppy chapters, keeping disparate plot threads from becoming entangled. Sadly, Riley is an incompetent detective whose obtuseness will have listeners wondering how she survives her adventures.
