Jennifer Fitzgerald leads a full cast in this compelling work of speculative fiction about solving the climate crisis around the world. Fitzgerald does the heavy lifting as Mary Murphy, the woman put in charge of solving the global crisis. Because the cast of characters come from every continent, Fitzgerald must move from her native Irish lilt into a variety of accents and back with hardly a moment to breathe. The listener feels totally immersed. There is a full cast delivering other parts, yet the fact that Fitzgerald is left to her own devices for over half the book exemplifies her skill in characterization. This story is heavy but important. Be prepared to lose sleep as you won't want to pause for anything.

by Nick Newman ; Read by Nicolette McKenzie ‧ RELEASE DATE: Jan. 22, 2025
Narrator Nicolette McKenzie conjures a stifled and decaying world in this unusual dystopian story. Aging sisters Evelyn and Lily have been alone together for longer than they can remember, tending their garden despite a growing dysregulation of time and the seasons. The appearance of a boy inside the supposedly secure wall surrounding their property throws everything about the sisters' lives into confusion that leads to a constant mood of suspicion. McKenzie's voices for the sisters are perfectly pitched to reflect their advanced ages without being stereotypical. She also defines each sister's personality and authentically renders their constant squabbling. Evelyn's tones are knowing with a touch of older-sister smugness, while Lily is more optimistic and has the unmistakable petulant whine of the sheltered younger child.
