THE LAST KIND WORDS SALOON

Tom Stechschulte and Carine Montbertrand do well in narrating this newest work from the current dean of Western writers. Stechschulte delivers the majority of the work, providing both narrative and dialogue in his rich, gravelly baritone. Montbertrand is the production's host, and at the end of the story reads an account by Nellie Courtright, which is spot-on in every way. The combination of these two voices brings to life the realities of life in the Old West as McMurtry dramatizes Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday in their sunset years. We hear an unsparing and gritty picture as the two old lawmen--and others such as Buffalo Bill and Kiowa Chief Satanta--see their world disappearing.

      18mm BLUES

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
