Fans of the Weisberger's earlier book, the blockbuster bestseller THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, will be sadly disappointed in this SEX AND THE CITY look-alike. Three friends, pushing 30, are each looking for Mr. Right--and failing. As Lily Rabe individualizes each character, her tone, pace, and accent make each friend unique. Emmy, who will do anything to please, is dumped by her boyfriend for a younger woman. Leigh is an ambitious, driven book editor. Adriana, the most interesting character, is a Brazilian bombshell. While Rabe manages to hold together the directionless plot, she can't save a story line that relies too much on sexual details and on humor that falls flat.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
