Sound a lot like Harry Potter? Bramhall delivers the author's irony and allusions as he portrays a maturing, fully dimensional protagonist. Quentin is insecure at heart, prideful at times, fearful at others. He longs to change the world like the heroes from the enchanted realm of Fillory, which he read about as a boy. When Quentin discovers that Fillory is real, Bramhall distinguishes the hero's imaginings from the reality of the dark realm he finds. As Bramhall depicts this Narnia-like land, he fully portrays the heroes, villains, even the secondary characters such as the cruel mage, a drunken bear, and a timid tree person.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
