Master baker Jane Porter visits her home in Twin Rivers, Rhode Island, to help her sister, who lives with their ailing mother, and to see how her daughter, Chloe, has grown under the love of her adopted parents. Dylan Chadwick, Chloe's uncle, owns the family apple orchard and is trying to return it to life as he repairs his emotional health after the death of his wife and daughter. When Jane begins to bake pies for Dylan's farm stand, managed by Chloe, sparks begin to fly. Karen Ziemba breathes life into all the characters so ably created by Rice. Ziemba's soft cadence adds romance and understanding to these tangled lives and the love that struggles to blossom in the orchard.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
