Imagine life being created from a perfectly preserved Neanderthal embryo, that was placed in a surrogate Quanoot Indian mother. Modern-day Ember Ozette is the result of this experiment; she is raised among the Quanoot but spends her life wondering about her otherness, searching for her people, who she vividly sees in her dreams. Performer Irene Bedard, recognizable as the voice of Disney's Pocahontas, is an excellent choice to recount this moving, if fantastic, tale. Her nasal, diphthong-less Native American clarity allows her to marvelously produce various voices and dialects as she brings to life Ember and her family and friends. Through superlative character distinction and excellent timing in building suspense, Bedard achieves an entertaining performance of a unique and fascinating story.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
