CULTURES OF GROWTH

HOW THE NEW SCIENCE OF MINDSET CAN TRANSFORM INDIVIDUALS, TEAMS, AND ORGANIZATIONS

Carol Dweck, author of MINDSET, narrates the Foreword of this audiobook in a workmanlike fashion, explaining her scholarly relationship with author Mary Murphy. Murphy argues that the creative and talented mindset transcends the innate gifts of an individual. Cultures of growth are explained as both revolutionary and helpful at Microsoft and many other well-known organizations. An extended discussion of nature versus nurture follows. Sadly, Murphy's narration leaves much to be desired. It lacks gravitas in its nasal timbre and almost childlike pitch, and occasional odd phrasing and pauses mid- sentence may further alienate the listener. A professional narrator may have made this discussion more approachable.

YOU DIDN'T HEAR THIS FROM ME

    (MOSTLY) TRUE NOTES ON GOSSIP

Podcaster Kelsey McKinney offers up an entertaining analysis of gossip. Using research, opinion, and her own personal experiences, McKinney digs beneath the surface of "spilling the tea" and takes a passionate, captivating, and bubbly approach to her narration. In a casual tone, she introduces a history of gossip and its contributions throughout generations, as well as the misconceptions of hearsay. She clearly defines all different types of gossipy buzz and how it influences humanity and impacts truthfulness. Her perky tone adds playfulness and energy to pop-culture references. Overall, McKinney provides perceptive views on how gossip can affect every aspect of our lives.
