by Max Hastings ; Read by John Hopkins ‧ RELEASE DATE: Nov. 11, 2025
World War II buffs won't be disappointed as narrator John Hopkins capably delivers this account of the British landing on the easternmost beach of the Normandy Invasion in June 1944. Hastings, a well-known British military historian, switches from his usual mile-high view of events to a ground-level view. He gives splendid descriptions of the preparations for the landing, the paratrooper drops, and the actual landing up to the time when night fell. There are also concluding accounts of what happened to the many individuals whose actions are described. Hastings himself delivers the introduction very well. Hopkins describes the day's events with a staccato articulation, a steady pace, and an appropriately disciplined tone.

by Carol Matthau ; Read by Carol Matthau ‧ RELEASE DATE: N/A
Carol Matthau epitomizes a glamour and lifestyle not associated with the 1990's. Here is a life of privilege, tragedy and worry about what friends would think of her new frock or lover. Matthau possesses a voice and delivery that simply could not be improved on. In her coy whisper, she tells compelling stories involving everyone from William Saroyan (husband #1) and Truman Capote to Carson McCullers, Gloria Vanderbilt, and Walter Matthau (husband #2). This excellent audio presentation will leave you wanting to read the entire book to discover what juicy tidbits were left out.

by Jason Burke ; Read by Kristin Atherton ‧ RELEASE DATE: Jan. 13, 2026
Kristin Atherton is the absolute right choice to narrate this riveting and complex history of the rise of global terrorism. The research provided here is ambitious, providing a clear-eyed, deeply considered history of the nature of terrorist acts, the motivations for which were hard for news broadcasts of the 1970s to fully capture. Atherton's narration never wavers as Burke covers the well-known events of airplane hijackings, the Munich Olympic attacks, and the Beirut bombings of 1983, "the bloodiest year." The result is an insightful history that gives context to events that may have seemed disparate to casual observers. Atherton maintains a comprehensive, consistent voice throughout this long, gripping audiobook.
