Expertly performed by multiple narrators, this audiobook focuses on a Marine engineer platoon in Iraq. The unit’s mission is to fill in potholes on the roads—a task that involves encounters with snipers, IEDs, ambushes by insurgents, and car bombs—but not much glory. Events are presented from various points of view, focusing on platoon leader Lieutenant Donovan, medic Doc Pleasant, and their Iraqi interpreter, who goes by the nickname “Dodge.” Interspersed between the characters’ narratives are “official” documents that provide a framework for the story; these are splendidly read in a resonant, authoritative voice. All the characters are portrayed with adroitness, especially “Dodge”—in a spot-on performance by Fajer Al-Kaisi. This is a production not to be missed.

A year has passed since Simi Chopra, her assorted crew, and Jack Danger pulled off a lucrative diamond heist. by Gerald A. Browne ; Read by Barry Bostwick ‧ RELEASE DATE: Jan. 22, 1993
This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
