Narrators Ell Potter and Sebastian Brown bring their A game to this lovely historical romance. Painfully shy heiress Julia Wychwood, whose controlling parents are reclusive, selfish hypochondriacs, proposes to scarred, quiet war hero Capt. Jasper Blunt, who needs to marry well to save his estate. She wants peace and safety. He wants to keep his secrets. Potter's exacting British accent does justice to both lead characters. She smoothly moves between them, delivering believable acting and pitch-perfect accents. Brown's rich, warm voice is equally convincing and appropriate. His talents are equally effective whether he's portraying the elite Brits or their staffs. This enjoyable listen is filled with characters to care about and to hate.
