When Jack Rosenblum escapes to England from Nazi Germany with his family, he dreams of acceptance and a new life. Following instructions in a pamphlet, Jack works hard to live by traditional English norms. His wife, who misses their old life, has mixed feelings about his efforts. Narrator James Adams portrays Jack with meticulous care and an inviting British accent. With affection, Adams depicts Jack's difficulties as he evolves into a proper English businessman. From that achievement, Jack sets another goal—to design and construct a golf course—with reluctant assistance from locals. In a compassionate tone, Adams portrays Brits who will never accept Jack as a true Englishman, despite his tireless efforts to impress them. In the end, Jack finds it’s his truest friends and loving family he values most.
