by Nathan Wolfe ; Read by Robertson Dean ‧ RELEASE DATE: Jan. 22, 2011
Robertson Dean’s baritone voice adds to the gravity of this book—which is reflected in its title. Dean’s gravelly timbre also works well to deliver an interesting look at the causes and outcomes of virus outbreaks. Wolfe provides both a history of human-viral relations and considerations for the future, which could include more fatal outbreaks as well as the potential benefit of using viruses to heal or improve human health. Despite his foreboding voice, Dean does well with the delivery of the complicated and nuanced information. He shifts smoothly from Wolfe’s anecdotes of firsthand experiences to the scientific exposition, knowing how to pace each for listener comprehension.
