by Nora Dåsnes ; translated by Matt Bagguley ; illustrated by Nora Dåsnes ; Read by Laura Knight Keating ‧ RELEASE DATE: Jan. 22, 2023
Laura Knight Keating brings this Stonewall Award winner, a Norwegian import, to English-speaking listeners. "Seventh grade sucks," observes Tuva as she struggles to navigate both changing friendships and her growing same-sex attraction to a new classmate. She pours out her feelings to her diary, writing and illustrating moments both sweet and painful. Keating's expertly pitched evocation of Tuva's roiling feelings is nuanced and empathetic. Secondary characters are also well realized, especially Tuva's loving single dad. Sadly, much of the narrative load is carried by pictures and graphic-novel sequences in the original book, which are presented with no attempt to adapt them to the aural medium. Listeners who read the print book alongside Keating's superb performance will have the best experience.

by Donna Barba Higuera ; illustrated by Mariana Ruiz Johnson ; Read by Robb Moreira ‧ RELEASE DATE: Nov. 4, 2025
Robb Moreira summons a mythic tone for this original spinoff of the Aztec creation story. In Higuera's story, the feathered serpent god Quetzalcoatl's lesser-known brother, Xolotl, recounts "what really happened." Xolo has a dog's head, paws, and, most importantly, a love of humankind. Moreira's declamatory tones suit the epic nature of the story but also sometimes flatten the nuances of Higuera's characterizations. Listeners who don't seek out the print edition to accompany the audiobook will miss illustrator Mariana Ruiz Johnson's strikingly stylized figures, colorfully lush design, and critical narrative detail that's often communicated only in the illustrations. Those who do read and listen will occasionally find themselves zooming past wordless sequences that demand close attention. Both otherworldly and sweet--and perhaps best enjoyed in print.

by Jamie Smart ; illustrated by Jamie Smart ; Read by Ciaran Saward ‧ RELEASE DATE: July 1, 2025
Ciaran Saward's zany delivery is perfect for a young audience that thrives on silly nonstop action and striking sound effects. Selfish, bullying Monkey is sent into space but soon crash-lands in a forest, which he decides to colonize. When genial Bunny realizes this, he gathers Pig and Weenie Squirrel--all humorously rendered--to save their peaceful home from the intruder. Seward incorporates instructional tidbits, for example, how bats navigate. The most fun are Skunk, Monkey's megalomaniac inventor, and French-accented Le Fox, who just wants to be left alone. Sound effects such as the snoring of a hibernating bear take listeners into the action. Audio enriches delightful wordplay, and older audiences will hear references to current events.
