The women in this book want passion, romance, stability, worldly goods and middle-class respectability. The problem, though, is that they want these things from their men. So when Sylvie finds out that her husband, Bob, is fooling around, she devises an unorthodox way to get him back, or, at least, let him go with dignity. Cristine McMurdo-Wallis uses a wry, satiric voice to negotiate the frantic goings-on and succeeds in narrating a credibility-straining bit of fluff. But Wallis makes it entertaining fluff because her tongue is firmly in her cheek. Her husky voice gives her characters quirky, fun personalities. She also gets Goldsmith's writing rhythm down and keeps the story moving at a brisk pace.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
