by Ramona Ausubel ; Read by Laural Merlington ‧ RELEASE DATE: Jan. 22, 2012
Ausubel's first novel presents the haunting story of a small group of Romanian Jews who attempt to redefine reality as the horrors of war encroach upon their remote village. Laural Merlington's performance as she transitions from a child's whispery breathlessness to the more confident tones of a mature wife, mother, and survivor helps the listener follow the main character, Lena, as she and her community defiantly celebrate life amid unspeakable tragedies. Merlington enhances Ausubel's deft character development by employing an equally subtle touch to vocally define personalities. She skillfully allows the author's lyrical prose to deliver all necessary drama and emotion. Listeners who embrace this unconventional story will be treated to a unique experience that lingers long after the work ends.

by Jean Meltzer ; Read by Dara Rosenberg ‧ RELEASE DATE: Jan. 22, 2025
Dara Rosenberg returns to narrate Meltzer's latest heartwarming novel, a second-chance romance peppered with magical realism. To the shock of workaholic television producer Evelyn, her ex-husband, David, has been hired as on-set physician for her musical production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL. As the frantically paced shooting unfolds, Evelyn is in a minor accident but declines medical care. She's then visited by eight "heartbreaks," or spectres, who show her moments in her past with David. Rosenberg skillfully portrays David's steadfast personality and concern for his ex-wife, as well as Evelyn's gradual recognition of her need to reorganize her priorities. This slow-burn romance will warm the hearts of listeners, who will also delight in its holiday theme.

by Esther Chehebar ; Read by Olga Namer , Gail Shalan & Gilli Messer ‧ RELEASE DATE: Jan. 22, 2025
Three distinctive voices portray the Cohen sisters, who reside in a Syrian Jewish community in Brooklyn. As the novel opens, middle sister Fortune is preparing to marry and fulfill her family's traditional expectations. Gilli Messer maintains a restrained, compliant tone that suits her character's personality. Olga Namer depicts the tough eldest sister, Nina, who is unmarried--much to her family's chagrin. Her voice has an edge that stands in stark contrast to Fortune's. Youngest sister Lucy is brimming with energy, thanks to Gail Shalan's strong performance, which captures the high schooler's energetic wit. While phrasing can be choppy, all the narrators skillfully deliver accents and make the wide array of characters credible.
