Sala sounds like one tough old cowboy, and Parry has peopled his offbeat Western with old gunfighters like 50-year-old Wyatt Earp, his older brother Virgil, and Jim Riley. Alaska's Klondike Gold Rush in the late 1890's is the stark but beautiful setting for this fast-paced story. Young Nathan Blaylock, convinced he is Earp's illegitimate and abandoned son, is tracking Earp to kill him in order to avenge his mother and claim the inheritance tied to this last request. Sala reads at a steady pace and volume with clear enunciation despite the Western twang. This listening experiene is delivered with an immediacy that reflects the excitement of the time in a very captivating manner. Will appeal to a wide audience.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
