This absolutely stunning and powerful tale of war, told from an Israeli soldier's perspective, is a moving commentary on the human condition and the brutality of warfare. Though a surprising choice for this narrator, given the subject matter, Dick Hill offers a compelling reading so believable it's scary. His voice shifts to a slight Israeli accent, and his characters are so true and well rounded that the listener gets the impression these conversations are the real thing. Hill excels in every aspect of his delivery--his voice is rich and coarse, his pronunciation flawless. This enthralling and absorbing story will resonate for months afterward in the listener's mind.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
