Narrators Christina Delaine and Angus King deliver a solid performance of this audiobook set in the world of antique appraisal. The story follows Grace Schaffer, a recently disgraced appraiser who discovers an old pendant that gives her accurate and outrageous divination abilities regarding the value of the items she’s appraising. Delaine and King make a great pair. Delaine performs as Grace, and both she and King fill in the other characters and narration. Their voices are clear, distinguishable, and easy to follow. Part magical realism, part light suspense, and part romance, this book is as much about the challenges of personal growth as it is about antiques.

An enjoyable listen for fans of Antiques Roadshow.

      18mm BLUES

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
