Christina Moore delivers the witty dialogue with panache when screenwriter and Mormon housewife Becky Jack meets dashing movie star Felix Callahan. Discussions of religion, friendship, and life are interspersed with daydreams about love and affection. Moore brings out Becky’s flat Utah intonation as she trades words with the worldly Felix. Where Becky is bouncy, Felix is stuffy. Still, their friendship grows. Can a Mormon wife maintain an innocent friendship with a suave actor? In a word: yes. So listeners should not expect steamy love scenes. Hale reminds listeners that not every male-female relationship revolves around sexual tension.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
