Banker JW teaches other bankers how to profit from the money made by nearby casinos owned by Native Americans. JW is a complicated man: His son died, his wife left him, and he has a problem with gambling. When JW is fired for embezzling, he’s given a chance for redemption. While JW’s story can stand on its own, Jim Meskimen’s crisp and forceful narration makes it especially engaging. His powerful voice works well for the dialogue. With emotions flying, Meskimen’s narration makes this a book listeners will be talking about long after they’re done listening.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
