Three prison escapees embark on a killing spree whose savagery knows no bounds. But the partner of a state trooper they slaughter vows retribution. Eric G. Dove gets into the heads of all three killers, lending chilling reality to their depraved motives. Ringleader Lamar Pye oozes anger out of every pore, showing affection only to his slow-witted cousin, Odell, who offers a puppy-like devotion in return. Dove gives the Pyes' prisoner hostage, Richard, the only depth of character in the group, portraying him with fear, shame, and rage. The extreme personalities of these three are offset by the startlingly bland lawmen out to end the killing spree. While the brutality will shock some listeners, Dove’s performance remains flawless to the end.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
