by Terry Pratchett ; Read by Stephen Briggs ‧ RELEASE DATE: June 14, 2005
Dream-spinning dromes, grimhounds, and the Queen of Fairyland have stolen Tiffany Aching's brother, and she's not going to take it lying down. So, she uses her first sight, second thoughts, and new friendship with the local Nac Mac Feegle--a.k.a. Wee Free Men--to bring about a reckoning. One has to wonder who had more fun with this project--Terry Pratchett, as writer of yet another delightful tale in his bestselling Discworld series, or Stephen Briggs, as narrator. Both are masters of the high art of wordplay. Pratchett introduces us to a thesaurus full of odd and clever utterances. And Briggs reads the prose with rhythmic glee and suspenseful understanding. He has a great time handling the hearty brogues of the many and mighty Wee Free Men. This tale is especially recommended for all girls who wonder why boy characters like Harry Potter seem to get all the magical action. Tiffany Aching is a wise and perceptive 9-year-old heroine who can take care herself just fine, thanks. B.P. 2004 ALA Notable Recording, 2005 YALSA Selection © AudioFile 2004, Portland, Maine

Myths come to life through Bahni Turpin and Robin Miles's stellar narration of this young adult fantasy. Marisol and her mother left their home in the Caribbean to live in Brooklyn. Marisol hopes to leave their island traditions and her family's magic behind. Genevieve grew up listening to her white father's mythical stories from her unknown mother's homeland. When the teens' lives collide, both discover secrets that change their views of their worlds. It's no surprise that both Turpin and Miles are Golden Voice narrators. Their skills bring Genevieve's and Marisol's stories to life as they capture the teens' personalities. Miles exquisitely delivers Marisol's Caribbean accent, while Turpin channels Genevieve's frustrations with her family and her own health. Simply magical.

by Johan Harstad ; translated by Tara F. Chace ; Read by Casey Holloway ‧ RELEASE DATE: April 17, 2012
This dark science-fiction story about three teens who participate in a doomed space mission is commendably narrated by Casey Holloway. Varied accents for the three teens—who are from France, Japan, and Norway—and strong pacing showcase Holloway’s talent as a narrator. As panic sets in among the astronauts and the teens find their adult companions to be unreliable, Holloway easily delivers the rising tension, and her quiet intensity draws listeners toward the story’s chilling conclusion. Harstad’s story will leave listeners contemplating the fate of humanity in the vast reaches of space.
