by Thornton Wilder ; Read by Derek Perkins , Piper Goodeve , Jane Copland , Gary Furlong , Andy Cresswell , Peter Noble , Antony Ferguson , Joan Walker & Morag Sims ‧ RELEASE DATE: Jan. 22, 2020
Thornton Wilder's epistolary novel set in Rome in the months leading up to the assassination of Julius Caesar adapts exceptionally well to an ensemble production, its narrative being a chorus of contemporary Roman voices. Wilder was successful both as novelist and playwright, and here, as in his better known BRIDGE OF SAN LUIS REY, the narrative tracks a cast of characters brought together by one significant event--there, the collapse of a bridge; here, the murder of a dictator. Wilder compared this novel to a crossword puzzle, and it benefits from a second listening. But the richness of historical detail and the smooth melding of these talented voices will win new fans for this forgotten classic.

by Gerald A. Browne ; Read by Barry Bostwick ‧ RELEASE DATE: Jan. 22, 1993
This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
