Pearl Street is in Albany, New York, and the year is 1936. We are planted in the Great Depression and moved into WWII by 6-year-old Jean-Luc Lapointe, whose father has deserted him, his mother, and his little sister. Read by Lee Leoncavallo, whose name augurs a great storytelling ability, this novel becomes one of the fine histories and collections of forgotten facts of that era. Leoncavallo's voice at the beginning catches the listener like that of an evangelist preacher. His expansive oration is the result of his desire to tell this story and to make it heard. He makes hearing about the life of this child and the people the child encounters an important event in our own lives.

      18mm BLUES

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
