LILY PAD POND; TREE TRUNK TRAFFIC by Bianca Levies
Released: April 20, 1989

Despite the many handsome, full-color photos by the author, a staff photographer for National Geographic, these books just don't raise above their insipid, anthropomorphic texts. Lily Pad introduces a "fat little tadpole" who hatched a year previously with her brother and sister tadpoles and has escaped many hungry neighbors to become "little young bullfrog" and, finally, "great big bullfrog." Tree Trunk shows the many creatures that inhibit a huge old maple, focusing on mother, sister, and brother squirrel, green Katydid and her cousin, tree cricket, a pair of "talking" daddy-long-legs, and others. Young nature-enthusiasts will be better served by the many books and magazines available that combine better texts with their fine photos. Read full book review >
