This novel is actually in combination of three short stories which have been ""completely rewritten into this 'novel form'."" And that seems to be the problem. The result is a tediously longs repetitive series of mutinies board the Hope of Man even unto the fourth generation as the ship laboriously progresses across the galaxy. The ""Hope"" was that when a predicted disaster destroyed Earths this sole shipload of survivors would carry the future of man to another planet. But hope fades with time and everyone, except the various successions of Captains, wants to go home. You'll wish they'd stayed there.
