STRAWBERRY ROAN

I can hear you say ""I can't get excited about a book about a cow"". Well, I didn't think I could either, but this isn't really a about a cow, and it is a very appealing story of life in rural England. Or rather a group of stories, in which the same characters reappear, and through which you get slices of country life, in different strata of rustic society. The thread that holds the story together is the passing from farm to farm of a strawberry roan heifer. In the stories themselves there is humor, and pathos, and a searching insight into character, and a real understanding of and love for life on a farm. ""Redolant of the soil"" perhaps, but not ""of the earth, earthy"". And don't let the phrase ""wholesome"" discourage you. We need some fiction of that link, and you have customers who demand it.
