WIDOWS WEAR WEEDS

Donald Lam, of the Lam and Cool detective agency is hired by Nicholas Baffin to pay off a blackmailer. But the blackmail turns out to be phony and the blackmailer turns up dead... in Baffin's restaurant. Lam is blamed but plays it cool and close as he discovers more cooking in Baffin's sumptious kitchen than food including desperate waitresses, corrupt politicians, one frantic cop and the deceased's missing widow. It's minor misdemeanor and compounded felony and the guilty parties are numerous. Tried and true and tricky.
