The authors make one important point convincingly: the dangers of the sea, even familiar waters, to the solitary swimmer or skin diver and the consequent necessity of staying in pairs, even in brief play. The Salty Skinners Club was formed when Andy and Joan Elliott arrived at Whale Beach for the first summer, equipped with snorkels, masks and flippers. They become popular with the beach crowd and soon are instructing eight would-be divers. The varied relationships between the children are briefly etched in the course of activity. Sound elementary instruction in a popular sport and worthwhile pre-summer reading. Lively black and whites by Arnold Spilka.
