JOURNEY THROUGH A TROPICAL JUNGLE

This vivid firsthand account of backpacking in the tropical forests of Costa Rica focuses on the rich, complex variety of plants and animals from treetop to jungle floor in the Monteverde Reserve. Forsyth--a biologist, conservationist, and photographer--combines thorough knowledge of his subject with enthusiasm and respect for the varied life forms he encounters. There is plenty of drama from mudslides, poisonous coral snakes, scorpions, army ants, stinging caterpillars, and tarantulas. Each double-page spread includes a 6"" x 10"" jewel-like full-color photo of a jungle landscape or performer: toucan, sloth, glow-in-the-dark mushrooms, a scorpion carrying her babies, and a glasswing butterfly among others. The author concludes with a plea for conservation. An informative, entertaining true-life adventure. Index.
