THE CONFESSIONS OF A HOAXER

Mr. Abel--on the frequencies, via letters and books (cf. The Great American Hoax--1966)--is a fairly funny funnyman who has made a career of put-ons. . . comfort stations and clothes (his dogs appeared in Bermuda shorts) for animals; an attempt to launch the records of skier-singer Count von Blitzstein which earned a flat eighteen cents; a Crazy Ad campaign as well as that of Mrs. Yetta Bronstein for President (cf. her book); and various identities as his own agent or as a golf pro or. . . down to an anything but genial confrontation with Long John Nebel. Most of this probably comes across better live on the kind of talk shows (Griffin; Carson; etc.) Mr. Abel appears on. You may be reading it with a pretty straight face and dismissing it as hoaxus pocus.
