SEVEN MEN AT DAYBREAK

This reviews the assassination attempt on SS General Reinhard Heydrich in 1942 and its terrible aftermath, Lidice, in full detail, and makes a grim, exciting story of the events. Czechs Jan Kubis and Josef Gabichick, trained in England and parachuted into their country, were dedicated to the killing of the hated Heydrich, and from December to May, evading discovery, making connections with other patriots, trying to organize the proper action, they worked on possible plans. Treachery and death among their comrades, friendships and love, preceded their final attempt when Josef's gun jammed and Jan's grenade effected a slower death. Through Heydrich's slow dying, there was the terrible retribution of Lidice and the unrelenting hunt for the criminals which ended when SS troops surrounded the Church of St. Cyril and Method in Prague to get their men. A fervent testimony to the fortitude and valor of oppressed people this makes the most of the drama of the events. Photographs. The Small Woman (1957) had many followers; this could be directed to them.
