by Alan E.- Illus. Cober ‧ RELEASE DATE: March 24, 1965
It's a temptation for lazy reviewers to repeat the title and run a line to the effect that ""You said it!"" However, our vigor is high and our hearts are pure so we read the book and found a boldly hypnotic appeal best suited to those who must gotosleep gotosleep gotosleep. The text is a neatly layered view of the world below ground and above sea level. The illustrations are in poster plain colors and style set against a solid black showing just what the text says--""First there is a layer of earth,"" under that a coalmine, then a goldmine, then a river and then (croon the title); next you come back up through the layers and do the same for the upper strata until you reach the title again, recap the whole thing and arrive at -- sleep? It's gratification through stratification.
