GERMANY

The author and its editors, Allan Nevins and Howard Ehrmann, have done an excellent job of compressing the massive history of Germany from its very beginnings to the present day into this volume, along with side trips into its literature and arts. The author says it is not a scholar's book, but the very mass of detail within its covers necessitates more or less of a textbook presentation. It is therefore not for one sitting. But anyone seeking a shortcut to the story of Germany, or a springboard for further reading and research, should not overlook this book. It is an interesting work, well done.
