A simple chase, hot-breath-chase-get-away, plot with unusual background, young white boy is captive, held by one-eyed Pete, from the time he is four, until is past seven. When Pete plans to kill him, Meeko makes his get-away. Through land trails, Meeko travels, protected by a good bear, Naka, and the many woods ures who hate villainous Pete. The forest life is engaging and the bear and boy adventure after adventure as they elude their evil pursuer. Ultimately the bear Meeko's wrongs and eliminates Pete. But he loses his beloved Meeko when a white man eventually carries him back to civilization.
