NICK AND NAN IN YUCATAN

This is suggested for the Road Aloud section because there's a great deal of interesting geography which will soop through to second and third graders if read aloud -- and it is to this age level that the rather thin plot appeals. For fourth and fifth graders, who would read it to themselves, the story is flat, but the background still interesting, as Nick and Nan, on a visit to their uncle, see the sights of the City of Windmills, the Great Pyramid, and the colorful houses. Details of illustrations (by the author) are authentic, but the diffusion of pink and blue is not appealing.
