Anecdotal rather than biographical these stories present incidents in the lives of twenty Irish saints in a straightforward devotional manner for Catholic readers. There is the tale of St. Patrick and the daughters of Connaught, Ethna and Fedelma, who heard him preach and were immediately converted from paganism. There is the tale of St. Brigid, friend of animals, and the boar she harbored from hunters and tamed in her convent; and of St. Gall, companion to St. Columbanus, who left Ireland for Switzerland and there found the right place to build his monastery.
