THE HERB AND SPICE BOOK FOR KIDS

What to do with herbs and spices: recipes, crazy cure-alls, useful gifts, and a few old standbys. Kids can scramble eggs with parsley or oregano, remove freckles with a watercress-leaves concoction, add lemon verbena to castile soap and olive oil (for herb shampoo), or stick cloves into oranges for pomander balls. Most projects require common kitchen-shelf ingredients, few and undemanding steps for completion. But we won't recommend the clove and peppercorn necklace (too hard to get a needle through), or tout the beauty of the egg-carton mobile, or vouch for the effectiveness of that freckle-remover or an equally silly baldness-stopper. Among the nearly 50 ideas, only a few can make a rainy afternoon speed by.
